About the artist:
George Dawson has lived in Lynchburg since 1980. Today he paints in both oil and water-based media. While interested in art throughout his life, his art experience was sporadic and primarily limited to doodling while sitting in meetings until he retired from his paying job in 2012.
Since then he has taken art instruction from Lynchburg artists including Ron Boehmer, Purnell Pettyjohn, Pat Harrington, Karen Bowden, Solly Blank, and Rosalie Day White and at the Studio School of the Virginia Museum of Fine Art in Richmond. Additional workshops instructors include Nicholas Simmons and John Salminen. His current interest is in continuing to build his ability with both water based mediums and oil. In watercolor he is currently developing a series of Lynchburg industrial works. In oils he is studying with Ron Boehmer’s students at the Lynchburg Art Club.
Dawson paints and exhibits his work at his studio, Studio One13, located in Riverviews Art Space, 901 Jefferson Street, Lynchburg, Va. which is open by appointment with the artist. Previous recognitions include: (1) The Katie Vaden Award for Watercolor, Lynchburg Art Festival, September 2016., (2)Bower Center National Juried Show, 2017, (3) Judge’s Honorable Mention, 2013 Georgia Morgan Show, Lynchburg Art Club.
