Behavior and Training Volunteer – Have a knack for training? Want to help pets who are scared come out of their shell? Love watching dogs play and would love even more to see our dogs getting play time? This is a specialized volunteer position that works with dogs and cats on various training and enrichment tasks. One large component will be assisting in running dog play groups. Other tasks include following behavior plans with pets, socializing with pets, walking dogs who need extra tools, implementing enrichment plans for dogs and cats, and learning how to train basic behaviors in pets. Weekend Receptionist Volunteer – This is a unique volunteer position where you would be able to work closely with the organization and get to know the ins and outs of our operation. We are looking for someone to run our front desk Sat-Sun from 10am-5pm. You would be greeting the public, managing emails, voicemails, and scheduling appointments. Pet Center Supervisor: The Lynchburg Humane Society is seeking a shelter supervisor for our Appomattox Pet Center.
Position Summary: This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations in all areas of shelter operations and community engagement/outreach at our Appomattox Center, including, but not limited to animal care, medical care and coordination, customer service, safety, coordination and supervision of pet care technicians and working with and maintaining a positive relationship with Appomattox County employees, as well as other community partners.
The ideal candidate must be able to successfully work independently and with a team, while working directly with the Lynchburg Humane Society Center for Pets. Previous experience managing a diverse staff is required. Previous animal care experience is highly preferred.
Schedule: Full-time position. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule based on shelter needs, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Lynchburg Humane Society is seeking a full time or part time Virginia licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine to join our elite, award winning team in our Spay Neuter Clinic.
For over sixty years, the Lynchburg Humane Society has operated as a private, non-profit organization, caring for lost and homeless pets. Last year, our Lynchburg Center for Pets and our Appomattox Pet Center cared for 4,962 pets and 92% of the pets went to new or existing homes. We are a 501c3, as well as a No Kill Humane Society, where we firmly believe that no healthy or treatable pet should be euthanized. By operating the public shelter for the City of Lynchburg, and Appomattox, we accept the stray or unwanted pets surrendered to us from those communities.
We also have developed a more regional/state level focus. Since 2015, we helped over 4,000 pets from other public shelters that otherwise may have had a negative outcome. We accept those that are easily adoptable as pets, as well as those that need special nurturing from abusive or neglectful experiences. Along with our Center for Pets, we have a regional spay/neuter clinic which performs over 6,000 spay/neuter surgeries annually. Our mission is to help pets in need through sheltering, adoption, education, spay/neuter, and community outreach.
The Lynchburg Humane Society’s spay/neuter clinic provides high quality/high volume spay/neuter services to the public and other shelters regionally. We also provide wellness services. This is an exciting time and opportunity for a veterinarian to come onboard with our nationally recognized team.

- This position will work 1-5 days per week Monday through Friday performing high quality spay/neuter surgeries and wellness and dental or shelter medicine..

The Lynchburg Humane Society’s South Central Spay/Neuter Clinic is seeking a full time or part time LVT/ LVT student.
Our Humane Alliance affiliated clinic serves 7 counties surrounding the Greater Lynchburg City area, accepting between 125-300 patients a week. Our distinguished, award winning staff thrives in a fast paced environment that is dedicated to quality animal care for both shelter and owned animals. This is a team oriented environment where a positive attitude, flexible thinking and competent animal handling skills are a must. Our core values focus on a staff that is able to have fun while accomplishing goals in an effective, highly functioning clinic environment.
Duties involved, but are not limited to, surgical assisting, vaccination and medication of surgical patients, patient check-in, drug log maintenance, staff training and vaccine clinic appointments. We are willing to train the right candidate. Students must have passed their Pharmacology course to be considered.
