Lynchburg Humane Society Spay/Neuter Clinic

Lynchburg Humane Society’s Spay/ Neuter Clinic is located at 29 Mortimer Drive, Evington, Virginia.

Please note we have updated some of our procedures and operations at Lynchburg Humane Society’s Spay/ Neuter Clinic:

  • Our online calendar is open and ideal for scheduling your pets’ surgeries. You can access our online calendar here
  • Scheduling your pets procedure with our Clinic will require a non-refundable deposit of $50 per dog and $35 per cat and must be paid at the time of scheduling your appointment. Your deposit will be used toward the total cost of your pet’s appointment, however, it will not be refunded in the event that your appointment is missed or canceled.
  • Please call us at 434-207-2612 if:
    • You need to schedule multiple pets for a single day, and are having difficulty scheduling through our online calendar
    • Your pet has high anxiety during vet visits, as we have protocols in place to reduce your pet’s level of stress while in our care.
    • You are using a grant or have an organization paying for your pet’s surgery. In these cases, there will be a non-refundable deposit fee of $15.

Guidelines for scheduling cats:

  • All friendly cats MUST have an appointment scheduled through our calendar.
  • All unfriendly cats MUST be brought in a live, humane trap.  This is for your safety as well as the safety of our clinic staff.  If you are in need of a trap, Lynchburg Humane Society as well as other shelters/organizations such as Central Virginia Regional Rescue, Bedford Cares, and Stray Cat TNR offer them for rent/loan.
  • Eartip:  An “ear-tip” is the safe and humane removal of the top third of an adult cat’s left ear. Ear tips are used as universal recognition that a cat has been sterilized, has a rabies vaccine, and is being cared for by an owner or caretaker. Ear-tips are not required. However, we strongly recommend them for cats that go or live outdoors. The price for the eartip service is $35*. This cost covers surgery, pain medication, a rabies vaccine, and the eartip. Ear-tips are included in our TNR package for community cats. Cats that are ear-tipped are kept overnight for monitoring with pick-up scheduled for the next morning, for this reason, we are not able to schedule cats needing ear-tipped on Thursdays.
  • We only have availability for 2 walk-in openings(without previously scheduled appointments) for trapped cats on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. These walk-in appointments are offered on a first come/first serve basis. We may be able to offer more walk-in appointments depending on the number of no-show appointments for that particular day.  We do our best to perform these surgeries, as we know time and energy spent trapping is not effortless.
  • If you prefer to plan to trap, you may give us a call and schedule your cats.  There will be a deposit.  We also have dates that we reserve for larger groups of colony cats, and if you are in need of those services, please give us a call.

Other important information:

  • All pets adopted from Lynchburg Humane Society are scheduled through the Center for Pets at the time of adoption unless your pet has already been sterilized.  You will be given a date for surgery and a reminder sheet for your appointment which includes drop off instructions. Adopted cats should be brought to the clinic in Evington for drop off between 6:30am-8am.  Pick up is the same day and typically 2:00-3:30pm.
  • All pets will receive a small blue/green tattoo on their abdomen at the time of surgery. This is also a universally known technique that helps identify that pet as spayed/neutered and reduces the chances of unnecessary anesthesia and surgery in the future.

The Lynchburg Humane Society’s Spay/neuter Clinic offers high quality, low cost spay/neuter services.  The Clinic has fixed more than 91,000 dogs and cats that otherwise would have produced thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens.  By offering these services, we are reducing the amount of unwanted animals in our community, thereby decreasing the number of animals that enter the shelters each year.  We are a Humane Alliance trained facility.
