We can not survive without donations from the community. Without you we would not be able to continue to provide services to the community and help the pets. We need your help now more than ever as we begin to help more and more counties reduce euthanasia and save lives. Our formal name is The Lynchburg Humane Society and our tax ID number is: 54-0570901. Your gift is in good hands. Giving to the Lynchburg Humane Society is backed by GuideStar Exchange Platinum Transparency status and Charity Navigator’s highest four-star Encompass Rating.

Give to one of our many programs to make a difference
Shelter Medical Program
The Lynchburg Humane Society’s shelter medicine program provides veterinary care to homeless animals who come through our doors. From treating pets with broken bones or severe dental disease to battling life-threatening illnesses, many need immediate medical treatment or surgery to survive. It costs us around $98 per pet we treat medically. Your donation of $1,000 will help us treat 10 pets. A donation of $5,000 will help us treat 51 pets. Transport to Happiness Program
Since 2015, we have brought in over 2,800 pets from area shelters with high euthanasia rates; we literally saved their lives. This program costs us about $89 a pet to save. We are looking to raise $30,000 to help us support this life-saving program. Click here to donate to our Transport Happiness Program.
Save Community Cats Program – City Cat Fix
In the world of animal welfare, the most fragile and at risk for euthanasia are cats and kittens. Every year, our cat/kitten intake shoots up to 200-275 a month during the spring/summer months. We can help them by providing free spay/neuter community cats. It costs us on average $35 to spay/neuter a cat. We are looking for enough funding to pay for this program at the cost of around $25,000-$35,000 a year to us to stop the death of helpless kittens by reducing the amount of them in our community. Keep the Lights on Program
Utility bills may not be the first thing you think of when donating to an animal shelter, but without the basics like electricity, heating, cooling, and cleaning products, we couldn’t do the work we do. Our new facility’s heating and cooling system is state of the art and protects the pets we care for from illness. With 7 clean air exchanges every hour, we are providing them the fresh air they need to survive. Though vital, this is expensive. Our utilities are over $100,000 a year. Consider paying for just one month, or even a day of our electric bill which is about $60,000 a year, $5,000 a month, and $167 a day. Click here to donate to our Keep the Lights on Program.
Behavior Wellness Program
As the pound for the city and with us assisting other shelters, we find ourselves with pets that need extra TLC. From the 3 week old wild/feral kittens that the staff are socializing by using baby wraps to carry them around during their day, to the terrified beagles we received after the tornado hit Appomattox, to the gregarious shepherd who just doesn’t have any manners, we are committed to helping them all. We have so many different pet personalities here and our team of professionals works with our pets to ensure they are healthy and happy, mentally and physically. This program costs us $35 per dog. We took in over 1,000 dogs last year. Please consider supporting this program. $1,000 will help around 28 dogs. Click here to donate to our Behavior Wellness Program.
Adoption Happiness Sponsorship Program
For $1,500, your company or personal name and photo of your pet will be featured on our Adoption Center Banner for a month. You’ll get a warm feeling of knowing that you helped hundreds of pets find new homes. Each adoption will have a photo in front of your banner and we will tag your name on each Facebook post. Do you want us to name some cats and dogs after you or your employees/friends? We will do that too! With our posts reaching 40,000+ people, our Facebook page and social media can show so many people how much you care about the needy pets in our community. Finding homes is the best part of our business, and you can be associated with that. Click here to donate to our Adoption Happiness Program.
