We know adopting a pet is exciting- and it should be! But it can also be stressful. What if the pet doesn’t fit into your family or home environment? Have no fear, our adoptions have a 30 day period that acts as an adoption trial. If you make the decision to bring your pet back, we will refund your adoption fee. At your request, we can process a refund, use the fee towards another adoption, or accept a donation. We just want to help you find a compatible pet for your lifestyle and environment! Our job as Adoption Counselors is to help make the best match for you and for the pet!
The Adoption Process
The adoption process is easy! We welcome you to come by anytime to visit and meet our adoptable pets. An Adoption Counselor will assist you to answer any questions about our pets, and introduce you to any pets you are interested in getting to know.
We will ask you to complete an adoption questionnaire, which are available online via these links – CAT or DOG. You may do this before you come to LHS, or we have paper questionnaires available at our Adoption desk. If you choose the convenient online questionnaire, upon completion, please make your way to LHS when you are ready to meet the pets. The questionnaire helps our team to get an idea of what you are looking for in a pet, and also aids in our process of making the best match for you and the pets.
From this point, your adoption counselor will guide you through the adoption process- it should only take about 20-25 minutes to adopt and take your new best friend home! Please remember to bring a photo id. Email [email protected] with any questions or stop by to chat with our team. Our hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12pm until 7pm, and Saturday/Sunday from 11am until 5pm
Adoptable Animals
Placing a pet on ‘hold’: We want your adoption experience to be as pleasant and stress-free as possible. We allow potential adopters to place adoption holds on pets in order for them to make arrangements to travel to LHS, prepare their home for the new pet’s arrival, take their time making adoption decisions, and to introduce family members and other pets. Holds may be placed over the phone, via email or in person, and in the case of a “tie”, the individual physically visiting the shelter and the pet will be granted the first hold.
1st adoption hold: $40 per 24 hours
2nd adoption hold and beyond: $25
Hold fees are non-refundable and are not applied towards the adoption fee.
