Remember siblings Bucky and Elara?? They were adopted by their foster thanks to #EmptytheShelters!

When Bucky was surrendered to us with his sister, Elara, last year, they were both quiet, nervous, and clearly unsure of the sudden changes in their life. After a few days in our care, it became apparent that Bucky was not putting any weight on his front right leg at all. He was clearly in pain, so our medical team was quickly alerted. Bucky was suffering from bone cancer in his wrist. However, being in an isolated part of his body, our medical staff were hopeful there was a chance for him after all. Our veterinary team made the decision to remove his leg to give him the best chance at a long, happy life.

Needing a foster home to heal, Bucky and his sister were both picked up by someone who was touched by their story. Being a bonded pair, we wanted to keep them together, but Elara, struggling herself being overweight, would also benefit from being away from the shelter! Their foster did not originally intend to adopt. She had been an active foster with us for a while, helping many kittens grow into their new homes. But as the months went by, she fell in love with Bucky, and Elara fell in love with her daughter. When our #EmptytheShelters special with Bissell Pet Foundation came up, she decided it was the perfect time to finalize their adoption for good.
