Did you know this month was Mental Health Awareness Month?

Throughout the month of May, we’ve partnered with Horizon Behavioral Health for Mental Health Awareness Month to bring you informational material and highlight the benefits that pets have on our mental health! This initiative is important to us because at the Lynchburg Humane Society, we believe that helping pets and helping people go hand-in-hand.

Throughout the month of May, Horizon Behavioral Health has made periodic visits to The Center for Pets to speak with the community, provide resources, and encourage adoption. To round out the month, we organized an “Adopt Wellness” initiative to lower adoption fees and encourage an adoption movement. Because our dog population is tilting high and our cat adoption numbers have been steady, we decided to lower dog adoption fees last weekend. 6 dogs found homes thanks to the “Wag more, Worry Less” adoption special, including Nico who we rescued from Danville below!!

Thank you Horizon Behavioral Health for helping Nico find his dream home, with the best new dad! It is always a good day when our costomers find happiness like this!
