20 dogs and our last FeLV+ cat went home this weekend!!

This weekend we had an emergency Howl-O-Ween special after an emergency surrender of 5 dogs sent us over max capacity. Not only did so many dogs find their matches this weekend, but Tau, our only FeLv+ went home too!

We went from having a room full of FeLv+ kitties in the beginning of the year to an empty room, after our last FeLv+ cat, Endora, went into foster care a few months ago. Once Tau was surrendered, we made sure to share him on social media so he wouldn’t be here long, and sure enough, he was adopted a few days later!

We’ve also been pushing hard to work against “black dog syndrome”. It isn’t only black cats who are sometimes looked over by prospective adopters. Whether the black coats are just less visible in the kennels or they are seen as “bland”, black dogs tend to spend more time in the shelter. We had over 10 black dogs in our care at one time, but after posts on social media, 4 went home during our special!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to adopt their new best friend and giving our pets a chance to show you their individually unique personalities. Thank you to our very close friends at Terry Subaru for being our October sponsor for #SubaruLovesPets.
