We Were Adopted! July 28th – August 3rd.

Our sweet boy Duncan went home!!

This weekend was our first fee-waived cat special of the year, and it was more successful that we could have hoped for!! Not only did 43 pets get adopted in three days, but Duncan, our sweet long stay senior finally found a home!!

If you’ve never seen his story, Duncan is a sweet senior with some tummy issues. He is approximately 12 years old and has been with us for far too long. When he was first surrendered to us his owner could no longer care for him. Since then, he’s come such a long way and has had multiple wonderful fosters who have given him safe haven as we looked for the best way to manage his tummy problem. But he’s never had adoption interest. He’s always been a favorite among our staff so this weekend when a family came in to meet him our hearts exploded into pieces!!

We know he’s meowing at his new people when they come home as we speak, and making all sorts of biscuits!!

Every adoption is a second chance, and this week was full of them. We want to keep the momentum going!! This week we will be holding TWO adoption specials. One for cats and kittens, fees are waived today 8/5 and tomorrow 8/6, and one for dogs, stay tuned for more details.

Thank you so much to everyone who adopted this weekend, and thank you Bank of the James for being this month’s sponsor!

Press Release: Lynchburg Humane Society begins construction of a new regional veterinary clinic offering affordable care.

(July 31, 2025)— Lynchburg Humane Society is excited to share that they have started construction on their new regional veterinary clinic, offering affordable care. A ground-breaking ceremony is planned for the fall, in cooler weather.  The construction company that was awarded the bid for this project is Coleman-Adams Construction, and the architect is Dominion 7 (who also designed the current Center for Pets). The current fundraising total for the project is $4.6 million, with a total goal of $7.5 million needed for the project.

This regional veterinary clinic will offer low-cost, quality care that will serve as a lifeline for pets and their owners in need. The clinic will be located next to the Center for Pets animal shelter at 1211 Old Graves Mill Road. The new clinic will also house the Spay/Neuter Clinic operations, which are currently located in Evington. The current Spay/Neuter clinic serves 20+ localities in Central Virginia.

The development of the new regional veterinary clinic represents a meaningful step forward in expanding accessible animal healthcare, with careful coordination between construction teams, architects, and supporters ensuring that each phase of the project aligns with long-term service goals. As the structure takes shape, attention naturally extends beyond the visible clinical and operational areas to the underlying build quality that will support years of continuous use, especially in spaces designed for equipment storage, medical supplies, and essential utilities that require a controlled and protected environment.

In projects of this nature, durability and moisture protection become critical considerations during the construction process, since maintaining a stable internal environment directly contributes to the safety and efficiency of care delivery, and solutions such as Better Basements and Waterproofing are often associated with reinforcing below-grade areas to help safeguard the facility’s foundation against water intrusion and long-term structural stress, ensuring that the clinic remains resilient, functional, and dependable as it serves a wide community of animals and pet owners.

“This is an exciting time for LHS, pets, and the people who love them! Our new low-cost regional veterinary clinic will benefit not only Lynchburg and our organization but also address the overpopulation of pets, alleviate overcrowding in animal shelters in our surrounding counties, and keep pets with their families where they belong,” said Jill Mollohan, Executive Director. “We still have fundraising to do to reach our goal, but we are confident that our community will come through for this vital project, which will significantly benefit both people and pets, and ultimately improve our city and surrounding areas, and allow us to save more animals in our no-kill shelter.”

For pet owners, especially those managing multiple animals or living in rural areas, knowing that quality medical support is available nearby brings peace of mind. These efforts strengthen the bond between people and their pets by ensuring animals receive timely care, early intervention, and long-term support that helps them live healthier, happier lives.

Beyond medical care, responsible pet ownership also includes safety and awareness when animals are outdoors or working alongside their owners. As pets venture beyond the home, whether during training, recreation, or field activities, technology has become an important tool in keeping them protected and accounted for. Solutions like Garmin Alpha naturally fit into this broader commitment to pet well-being, allowing owners to monitor location and movement with confidence. When combined with accessible veterinary services, these tools reflect a growing, holistic approach to animal care that prioritizes health, safety, and the enduring connection between pets and the people who depend on them.

The Lynchburg Humane Society needs the support of our community to make this crucial project a reality. Anyone interested in getting involved or finding out more information can visit www.LHSvetclinic.org  to donate or stay up-to-date on their social media pages. Donations to the Capital Campaign may be pledged over four years.  Stock donations and IRA distributions are welcome.

No, your eyes do not deceive you, that is LADY GODIVA going home!!

We are so excited to announce that 5 months after being rescued from Charlotte County, emaciated, scared, barely hanging onto life, our sweet girl Lady Godiva has finally found a home!!

We have worked with our friends at SWAG Southern Welfare Animal Group Inc. for the last year and a half to transport pets from Charlotte County and beyond to provide lifesaving care. It is all thanks to them and Best Friends Animal Society award of the 2025 Rachel Ray Save Them All Grant that we were able to save sweet Godiva and find her a loving home.

We are so excited for Lady Godiva and her new exciting journey, she is already thriving and enjoying her time with her new puppy sibling.

Thank you for adopting, and thank you, Rachel Ray/Best Friends, for allowing us to reach other communities with our lifesaving work.

Thank you, Petco Love, for being this month’s sponsors.

57 pets found happiness this week, including Rosie’s lone surviving puppy!

Do you remember Rosie? Just over 2 months ago, sweet Rosie made her journey from the Campbell County shelter to the Lynchburg Humane Society after she was found with multiple severe injuries. She was believed to have been hit by a car, with a broken leg, and a gaping wound on her backside, Rosie was also very pregnant. With the condition she was in, we were unsure if any of her puppies would make it and sadly, most of them did not. She was left with one surviving puppy, Sir Oolong. But that one puppy was so loved. For the next two months, Rosie fought for her life and her puppy’s. Rosie’s wounds slowly began to heal. And alongside her puppy, she started to relearn how to play and have fun.

This week, Sir Oolong was officially old enough for adoption! Big and strong, he graduated from foster care and found his home just hours after. We want to give a huge thank you to everyone who helped care for him, as well as his new owners for welcoming him into their home!! We also want to thank Petco Love for being this month’s sponsors and always supporting us.

Christmas in July was a success.. but we’re not done yet!

This week our kennels were full. We had nearly 100 dogs in our care with more and more kittens pouring in each day. Our weekend adoption event was a success with so many cat adoptions but we think we can do better. So we’ve extended our special through Thursday 7/17. ALL pets will have 50% off their adoption fees through Thursday. If you can not adopt, spread the word, stop by for a petcation, or email [email protected] to do a temporary foster! We hope to see you here and we hope to find as many dog homes as we have cat homes!

Thank you to everyone who adopted a deserving pet during our ‘Christmas in July’ special and beyond. Also shoutout to our sponsors at Petco Love for your continuous support.

If you are interested in anyone this week please stop by or check out our website: https://lynchburghumane.org/adopt/adoption-information/
