We Were Adopted! August 26th – September 1st.

This week 66 cats, dogs, and a rabbit found homes! Last week Stanley was adopted from foster!

We missed Stanley’s story then, so we’re sharing it with you now!

Our boy Stanley was found outside in September of 2023 looking much different from the dog we know and love today. He was skinny, missing patches of fur, and terrified of people. He wouldn’t trust anyone, and it took us weeks to show him he was safe. Then, we finally got a leash on him and everything changed! He learned to trust, he learned to love and he learned to eat. He made so much progress and we got to see our special boy grow into a confident young dog.

We were no longer worried about him finding a home. Little did we know, he’d be going home with a very familiar face. Mary (now Avery) found happiness just 4 months ago and we shared a similar story then. Her dad brought her back for a friend, and they chose Stanley. We are so happy for the new family and wish Stanley the absolute best life.

Thank you Petco Love for making matches like these possible with your support.

Lux and 59 of her friends found happiness this week!

Lux came to us as a fearful, three-legged stray over a year ago. We do not know what her life outside was like or how she lost her leg, but she did not trust people. We categorized her as a barn cat or an indoor working cat who would rather be away from the company of people.

We learned quickly that Lux loved other cats. They seemed to help with her confidence, so we moved her into our porch room! She remained fearful of people for months to come but over time, she stopped hissing and stopped running away from staff. She soon started accepting chin scratches from staff members and started to learn that humans aren’t so bad.

Recently we decided to give Lux a chance in a more trafficked room, the living room. She quickly became friends with another living room cat named Hollis. When you walked into the room, you could always find the two of them together. Hollis gave Lux so much confidence! With the spotlight in the living room and some help from her friend, Lux got adopted over the weekend!

We are so happy for Lux and all of the pets who found happiness this weekend! Thank you to everyone who adopted and thank you so much to this month’s sponsor, Petco Love for their unwavering support.

C.C. found Happiness this weekend at our Petco adoption event!

Last weekend we partnered with Petco to host a $25 kitten adoption special. We took 16 kittens to Petco where all but 4 found homes in the 2 hours we elloted! One kitten we were worried may not be picked first, was C.C., and we weren’t the only ones. One little girl felt drawn to C.C., and it was because of her caring nature that he found his new family that day.

C.C. came to us in May as a lost kitten with a terrible upper respiratory infection. We were able to manage his cold, but the infection in his left eye was worsening and becoming painful. We made the decision to remove the infected eye through surgery. He recovered from surgery well in an amazing foster home and became available for adoption at the end of July. Once our adoption event rolled around, it was by chance that he was one of 16 chosen to go to the event, where he would find a family to call his own.

We are so excited for C.C.’s journey with his new family, who chose him over everyone else because they felt touched by his disability. After all, it’s our uniqueness that makes us deserving of love.

Thank you so much to everyone who opened their homes to 70 pets this week! And shout out Petco Love for being this month’s banner sponsor!

Celeste, Primrose, and 52 of their friends found happiness this week!

Celeste and Primrose may have come in from different situations, but they left as best friends and now sisters.

Celeste came into our care as a transfer from another shelter with her sister Magenta (who is in foster care now.) She was scared and timid when she got here and really wanted nothing to do with our staff. Just a couple days after being here our staff started to notice that Celeste didn’t seem like she was feeling her best either, so they did a couple tests and it turned out that she had parvo. Our medical team quickly went to work on saving Celeste’s life. With there care and dedication, Celeste survived Parvo! Since she ended up back in dog medical, she didn’t get a chance to really interact with people, other than the medical team, so her trust in us was still extremely low. This was where Primrose came in.

Sweet Primrose came to us as a stray, and was a bit shy but would warm up quickly to the right friend. She came in with another dog, Pita (who has been adopted!) so we knew that Primrose liked other dogs. Turns out she LOVES other dogs. Primrose shines through the most when she has another canine companion at her side. We decided to try Primrose and Celeste together to see if they could bring out the fun side of each other and to see if it would help Celeste come out of her timid shell. It Worked! Primrose and Celeste were instant best friends! We noticed a huge change in both of their confidence.

Primrose ended up going into foster and we noticed that Celeste immediately started to go back into that shell. The foster reached out to our foster team and say that they loved Prim so much that they wanted to adopt her! We all were so happy for Primrose but were still worried about Celeste’s decline. Our foster team spoke to them letting them so how happy we were for them and Primrose, and also explained what was going on with Celeste and if they had room and would be willing to foster her, so she and Primrose could be together. They said yes and came to get Celeste the next day. It didn’t take long for them to decide that they wanted to adopt both girls! Celeste and Primrose both became foster fails and became sisters. We are so happy for them and their new family.

Bumble and 73 of his friends found happiness this week!

Bumble was found on along US 460, all alone and severely injured. A compassionate community member rushed him to LHS. His condition was so urgent and life-threatening that he had to spend his first night with our friends at Animal Emergency and Critical Care. They even said he was the most precious and perfect patient.

Based on the injuries to his body, we believe Bumble may have been hit by a car. What is clear is that this little boy is a fighter. The first day he was with us, he couldn’t stand and wasn’t eating, but on days two and three, he started to stand and eat! Our Medical Team closely monitored Bumble in his comfy enclosure inside our medical suite, being treated with IV fluids, meds, and a special diet to help him gain weight and get stronger. Bumble beat all the odds and got strong enough to move into one of our puppy cubes on the adoption floor and became available for adoption!

A family came in wanting to adopt. They met with a couple dogs, and then finally met Bumble, and they instantly fell in love with him and his sweet personality. Bumble became a part of their family yesterday and is officially adopted! What started out as a hard unpredictable journey ended with Bumble finding happiness.

Thank you to everyone who adopted this week giving so many deserving pets a second chance at happiness! Thank you as well to BISSELL Pet Foundation for making adoptions like this possible!
