Our longest stay dog Chaco’s meet cute!

Chaco has been in and out of the shelter since he was 2 months old. He was adopted as a puppy and then brought back about a year later for reasons unknown. Karson met him two months later when she started working at LHS.

Chaco was one of the first dogs she met when she was first brought into the fold, and then he was adopted again. When Chaco came back a second time, his sparkle was fading. He attached himself to Karson, but being back in the shelter a third time, he started to decline. Chaco had already struggled with reactivity towards strangers, but being in the shelter long term, his insecurities grew, and it took him a little while to trust men.

Seeing Chaco’s intense kennel reaction, people would typically assume the worst and walk past him without a second glance, not knowing how truly sensitive, affectionate, and sweet he is in a normal setting.

During his long stay at LHS, Karson and his relationship grew stronger, unable to adopt herself, she took him away from the shelter when she could, her parents even getting to know Chaco through play dates with their dog! Around March of this year, Chaco had been at LHS for one full year, and before we knew it, Karson’s living arrangements had changed, and she was making plans to adopt Chaco!!

This week, she finally finalized Chaco’s adoption, and now her favorite dog is hers for REAL. This is such a special adoption because Chaco ended up with someone who understands him better than anyone else. We are so happy for Karson and Chaco and this new chapter of their life together.

Norris is out of here!

A few weeks ago we met Norris. At first glance, it was clear he was skinny, but we could not tell through his matted coat just how critical the condition he was in was. All it took was our medical team placing hands on him to feel the outline of his bones jutting out from beneath his skin. During Norris’ lengthy time without access to food or water, his body became weaker, making it harder to fight off basic illness. Because of this, Norris was also battling an upper respiratory infection.

After a groom, a few weeks of medical treatment and a meticulous feeding plan, Norris was cleared for adoption last week! After seeing his fundraiser on social media, a sweet girl fell in love and came in to meet him. He was a perfect match, and she was committed to his health and continuing his diet, so she took him home!

69 adoptions this week, plus 4 of our court case cats!

A few weeks ago, we reached an uncharacteristically high number of pets in our care who were a part of ongoing investigations.

With nearly 30 pets unavailable, 14 of those pets were from one home. After their owner left the city, animal control had to intervene; 13 cats and one dog made their way to LHS. Thankfully our Animal Control Officers work fast, and these sweet kitties became ours last week! Four of them have already found homes which means there are 10 left (including the ones below plus one dog) looking for homes.

Raven and Teddy were adopted together!

Meet handsome brothers, Raven and Teddy! We’ve been lucky enough to have really low cat numbers recently which gives us room to transfer in from other shelters who may be struggling with their population. A few weeks ago we transferred in Raven and Teddy, and posted them on social media.

We really wanted them to be adopted together, and these boys were so sweet, we thought we could do it. And we did! Thanks to our wonderful community, and adopter came in to look at our cats and feel in love with these reserved boys, and committed to keeping them together!

Sam and Dean are off to their next adventure!

Unlike the Supernatural boys, these little guinea pigs, that’s right guinea pigs, will be living the simple life with their new mom.

Sam and Dean were found by the Kroger dumpsters. Thankfully, a good samaritan found them and brought them to LHS. We named them Sam and Dean, and now they are off to their new home together with an awesome new mom!
