14 Long Stay Dogs Found Love this Weekend!

Out of our 30 longest stay dogs included in our iconic long stay “Love at Last” special, 14 found their new families on the 14th!! If you’ve been keeping up with our socials, you’ll know each year we waive the adoption fees of our 25 longest stay dogs (plus a few extra) to help them find homes. In total, 14 dogs were adopted: Angus (our longest stay in house resident), Macaroni, Zoe, Ares, Chelsea, Maroon, Pinkie Pie, Sadie, Stella, Stormy, Tydus, and Mama Memphis, Oogie Boogie, and Pumpkin Roll were adopted by their foster families! We are so happy for every one of these new pairings and the beginning of their new journeys.

And just like that Isaac is heading home!!

We first shared Isaac’s story with you last week, after months of behind the scenes work from staff and fosters had already been going on. Isaac came to us with a severe, painful eye infection that had clearly been festering. When he arrived, both of his eyes were badly affected, one more than the other. We were able to save one of Isaac’s eyes but the other was too badly ruptured and had to be removed through enucleation. It took some time but Isaac was placed into a wonderful foster where he was gently guided through his healing journey.

Last week he graduated from foster, and this this precious little guy found his forever home shortly after. He was adopted by a young couple who fell in love with him immediately. (How could they not?)

Weather won’t keep our pets from finding homes, 23 to be exact!

The week of the storm we were either closed or had adjusted hours every day to keep our staff and customers safe from the severe weather. On the days we were open we still had adoptions! And let’s not forget that 20 of our pets found foster during the storm many of which are still in foster today.

Our hours have resumed as usual; Open from 12pm to 7pm on weekdays and 11am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. Rain, shine, or ice storm our supporters always come through!

With the scary weather forecast earlier this week and the anticipation of storm “Fern” hitting VA hard, we whipped together a last-minute adoption special, called the “Snow Storm Fern Special”. We pushed hard for our pets to find homes and foster homes for the weekend, so that the few staff staying the night to care for our pets would have less to worry about keeping warm. We had so many happy adoptions like sweet old man Ferdinand, long stay cat Piglet, and even more successful foster placements for the weekend!

67 adoptions this week and these kids are sticking together!!

A few weeks ago, “siblings” or long-time housemates (so basically siblings) Maggie Mae and Quinten came to LHS after their owner passed away. After going through such a difficult event of losing their owner and coming to the shelter, losing each other would be too much to ask of them after their 4+ years together. Small dogs tend to find homes more quickly compared to larger dogs, so while finding two dogs a home would be a little more challenging and take more time we knew we could do it for their sake!

Only one week later, much sooner than we would have ever expected, someone came in to adopt them.
