We Were Adopted! March 3rd – March 9th!

Happiness for long stay Carly Rose and Aster!

Our longest stay kitty, Carly Rose finally went home this week and with a friend no less, Aster!

The Lynchburg Humane Society Carly Rose’s one year anniversary had passed in January. She was brought in as a lost pet during the winter months with two other community cats. They were all shy but still, the other two found homes before her. Because Carly Rose had been outdoors for the majority of her life and was scared of people, especially in the shelter environment, we designated her a working cat. She could live indoors but she’d likely have a happier life where she can choose to be near people on her own terms while still having an enriching life. Last week when a woman came in looking for two working cats for her barn, we knew exactly who to recommend.

Thank you so much to this wonderful adopter for finally giving Carly Rose and her Porch Room buddy, Aster their big break. We know they will be loved!

We Were Adopted! February 25th – March 2nd!

43 pets were adopted this week, and Cross had a birthday miracle!!

Last week was our big boy Cross’ birthday. He was turning 2 years old and we posted him on our social media so the community could give him some love. 20 minutes later a sweet couple came in to see the birthday boy. Turns out, they had been looking at him on our page for quite a while. And it was just fate that they came in on his birthday.

They met him, fell in love, and decided to take him home on an adoption trial to see how he’d mesh with their lifestyle. Not three days later they came back to the Center to finalize. They loved Cross and knew they wanted to make him a part of their family. He is already spoiled and living for the homes life.

Happy Birthday Cross, thank you so much to his adopters for making his wish come true. And shoutout to Select Bank for being this month’s sponsor and supporting pets like Cross!

Our Valentine’s Special is over and 22 of our longest stay dog residents and overlooked dogs have found loving homes!!

Last week we shared the first of our long stay dogs to be adopted, and this week the last of our long stay dogs to be adopted were even more exciting!! Mercedes and Ziggy have both been waiting for two years to find homes and finally did last week. Mercedes went on an adoption trial on Valentine’s Day with an LHS alum! They hit it off and her new mom finalized last week. Then on the last two days of the special numbers were dying down and we thought we had our total count until someone came in for our boy Ziggy!!

We’ve already heard back from both of them and they are absolutely loving home life. Thank you so much to both of their adopters and thank you to Select Bank for being this month’s sponsor!

This weekend 13 of our dog who have been with us the longest found homes during our Valentine’s Day special!!

Last weekend was our annual Love at Last adoption special. Each year, we waive the adoption fees of our 25 longest-stay dogs to help them find homes. This year, we added the names of a few other dogs who also haven’t had much interest (i.e., shy dogs and dogs with medical restrictions). In total, 13 dogs were adopted: Bonnie, Echo, Henry, Lexi, Neeko, Pickles, Ellarix, Basil, Ginger, Venus, Bear, Bones, and Beano!

We are so happy for every one of these deserving dogs and so excited for the beginning of their new journeys!

The event was such a success that we wanted to give the dogs left over one last chance to Find Happiness this way. We decided to extend the Valentine’s Day special through the end of the week. Thank you so much to everyone who’s adopted so far. If you haven’t, don’t hesitate to stop by and meet the love of your life!

Thank you Select Bank for being this month’s sponsors.

Dex finally found a home!!

We ended January with so many amazing adoptions. 51 cats, dogs and a rabbit found homes this week. But our most exciting adoption has to be our long timer Dex. Dex came through our doors in 2020 as a young, spry, and handsome distemper survivor. With the distinct crooked nose and cute muscle spasms, Dex stole our hearts. Falling in love with Dex should have been easy but after multiple adoptions and lots of heartbreak, Dex stayed with us for a long time.

To our dismay, Dex quickly became our longest stay dog. It wasn’t until 2022 that Dex was miraculously reunited with his original owner. We were so excited for Dex because we knew he would be loved unconditionally again. A year later we learned that his owner passed away and Dex was once again coming back to the shelter. We were heartbroken for him and couldn’t imagine how confused he was. We did not want Dex to wait so long again to find a loving home.

As hard as it’s been for him to be back in the shelter as a senior now, he was not nearly as energetic as before so more fosters were open to taking him in. He got to spend time away from the shelter but time was still ticking. We had just passed his one year anniversary of being back with us when a gentleman who had seen our posts came in to meet him. The adoption was inevitable, but he came in one more time to make sure Dex was the one, and finally took him home!

Thank you so much to his adopter for taking our special boy (and his favorite stuffy) home! We hope Dex brings as much joy and excitement to your life as he did ours. Congratulations Dex and Dad.

Thank you Piedmont Floor Show for being this month’s sponsor and supporting our life-saving initiative!
