Calliope went home after her debut on TV!

Each week ABC 13 invites us to bring a ‘furry friend’ to be featured on their Living in the Heart of Virginia segment. Last week we selected new resident, Calliope. This beauty previously lived outdoors but was found in Pulaski, Virginia and transferred to our organization for care. She is 5 years old and quite the looker. For an outdoor cat she was also very well taken care of so we aren’t sure if she was outdoors her entire life. We knew she’d find a home quickly if she was on TV and we were right!

Calliope was adopted just 3 days after airing on TV and being featured on the ABC website. We are so excited she was able to find a loving home and can not wait to see what adventures she goes on next in her new loving home. Why has Cami been here so long you might ask? Well, let’s call it a biting fixation. Cami thinks everyone around her are just giant chew toys. Yes, you heard that right! Our sweet, social girl Cami likes to bite people after luring them in with her gorgeous looks and flirty mannerisms. We’ve found Cami placement before as a shop cat. The owners loved her, but her love bites weren’t great for customers. Cami made her way back to the shelter where her biting and overarousal is at its peak.

Cami has never been mean, in fact, she loves being petted, scratched, and even held. She just gets overstimulated easily. Nobody enjoys being bitten, but if you’ve got a good eye for body language and quick reflexes you’ll be outmaneuvering Cami’s biting habits in no time!

It took us a while to convince people to give Cami a chance, but everything changed when a young gentleman came in already set on Cami, bites and all! He said he didn’t mind that she bites sometimes and would be happy to work with her and give her a loving home. We were ecstatic!! Now she’s in a lowkey environment with one other cat sibling hopefully living the dream, and nibbling fewer people. Lots of “Lucky” pets this week after our Saint Patrick’s Day special!

This weekend we let our adopters try their luck at adoption discounts! Through the weekend into Saint Patrick’s Day we hosted a “pick your price” adoption special, but with a lucky twist!

Adopters had the chance to pick a lucky coin from a pot of gold to reveal discounts ranging from 25% to completely waived. They just had to find the pet they wanted to welcome into their home, get to the adoptions desk, and pick from the pot of gold! All cats & adult dogs were included in this event and we had an amazing turnout. Thanks to our amazing community, supportive customers, and sponsors like Bank of the James.

Happiness for long stay Carly Rose and Aster!

Our longest stay kitty, Carly Rose finally went home this week and with a friend no less, Aster!

The Lynchburg Humane Society Carly Rose’s one year anniversary had passed in January. She was brought in as a lost pet during the winter months with two other community cats. They were all shy but still, the other two found homes before her. Because Carly Rose had been outdoors for the majority of her life and was scared of people, especially in the shelter environment, we designated her a working cat. She could live indoors but she’d likely have a happier life where she can choose to be near people on her own terms while still having an enriching life. Last week when a woman came in looking for two working cats for her barn, we knew exactly who to recommend.

43 pets were adopted this week, and Cross had a birthday miracle!!

Last week was our big boy Cross’ birthday. He was turning 2 years old and we posted him on our social media so the community could give him some love. 20 minutes later a sweet couple came in to see the birthday boy. Turns out, they had been looking at him on our page for quite a while. And it was just fate that they came in on his birthday.

They met him, fell in love, and decided to take him home on an adoption trial to see how he’d mesh with their lifestyle. Not three days later they came back to the Center to finalize. They loved Cross and knew they wanted to make him a part of their family. He is already spoiled and living for the homes life.
