Let the Bissell special begin! But first we celebrate Eve and Louie!!!

Louie and Eve waited over a year before their respective families finally came in and scooped them up! The holidays is season is turning about to be quite promising! Last week was the first week of our adoption special partnering with BISSELL Pet Foundation and Louie was adopted then! They came in after seeing he was made “pet of the month” and his story touch them. They fell in love and knew he’d make a great addition to their family, which as an added bonus LHS alumni, Akita Lexi was also a part of!!

Eve was adopted the week before where she spent time in a ‘Foster Home for the Holiday’. That is when her fosters, now owners, fell in love. They have since sent us an update, they call her Evie and she is absolutely loving her new home!

Darlin was rescued once and then again for good!!

At just a year old, Darlin was tied to a tree and abandoned. You likely saw her story on Living in Lynchburg a few months ago. A Lynchburg resident heard howling behind her house one night, but assumed it was a coyote in the woods. After hearing it again the following night, her gut told her to investigate. Following the cries, she stumbled upon Darlin, tied to a tree stump. She was so small, and despite being left behind, she was excited to see a friendly face. Not willing to leave her side, the finder brought out some water and a meal and sat with Darlin’ until LPD arrived.

She was taken to LHS swiftly, and from then on, her life was set for change! She blossomed, and while we’ll never know what the one year of Darlin’s life was like, we are just grateful for her second chance at Happiness! We don’t have a photo of her adopters, but Darlin was adopted two weeks ago, just in time for Thanksgiving. There will only be full bellies and love in Darlin’s future.

So many pets found their forever family through this push for foster and those who didn’t got to spend Thanksgiving in a home instead of the shelter, so we thank you whole heartedly.

FeLv positive mom and daughter have been adopted after a year!!!

When you stop by the Center for pets the first girls to greet you are Pumpkin and Arrow. Located front and center in our Blue Sunroom, and FeLv+ room these girls were set up to go home first. But if you know about the stigma surrounding FeLv, you’d know that it’s not that simple.

Arrow and Pumpkin are mother and daughter. Arrow had Pumpkin when she was around a year old and likely had FeLv then. When the owners found out at vet that they were Feline Leukemia Positive they chose to surrender them. In many cases cats with Felv have shortened life expectancies. So it is always heartbreaking when they wind up in the shelter. Pumpkin and Arrow got the best seats in the house we could offer and we hoped they’d find a home together, but knew as Felv cats it would already be a challenge finding one of them a home. They waited for over a year. We marked them individually and separately and even though they remained healthy and happy their entire time with us no one seemed to ask about them.

Last month we made one last stitch effort, we revamped their profiles and officially made the “Pets of the Month” which includes waived fees, and features them at the top of our website. And my some miracle someone came in. Not only to adopt one but to adopt both of them.

We couldn’t believe when she came in to adopt these girls and we are so grateful she did! Thank you so much, and we wish you the best of times with these sweet girls.

100+ Adoptions, and you won’t believe who went home!!

After a year in the shelter and months and months of marketing, making silly videos, and searching for a foster home for our sweet senior boy, RILEY has finally got his big break!! Those of you who follow our page have undoubtably seen Riley’s many posts from us, searching for a home for him. Well last week when a woman came in, she didn’t know he was a long stay dog, she just knew he was the one.

After 14 years of her last dog’s passing helping her son who fostered a dog with us is what got her thinking about another dog. And she chose Riley, and Riley excitedly accepted her!! Now Riley is living in an apartment with carpeted floors, and his own personal elevator. His new mom loves him and all of his friends here at LHS couldn’t be more proud. Now there will be lost of leashes to carry, so much cuddling, and the best sleep of his life all in time for Thanksgiving in his own home.

Last week was a Puppypalooza…

In the last two weeks, we’ve received over 20 unexpected puppies. Transfers, surrenders, or strays, they are all looking for homes. There is always a huge market for puppies, so thankfully, they found homes fast, and the ones that aren’t old enough for adoption can be placed on hold soon.

Even though puppies do not have a hard time finding homes, we still want to take the time to thank everyone who came together in record time to not only provide adoptive homes for these puppies, but also foster homes for our very young pups. We wouldn’t be able to rescue more precious lives without our adopters and fosters.

Now that the majority of our puppies have found loving homes, it is time for the kittens to have their moment!! This weekend (Friday 11/7 – Sunday 11/9) we will be having a $25 Kitten adoption special that includes all cats under one year old.
