We Were Adopted! January 6th – January 12th!

To the Moon and back, that’s how much this kitten was loved before she found her forever home!

We haven’t told Moon’s story yet, but it’s a special one to be sure. Moon was found back in September on the side of a highway with wounds all over her body. On top of her physical injuries, she was incredibly sick. She found a foster with one of our staff members and with great care, her wounds slowly healed. It was her upper respiratory infection that took the longest to recover from. She was on multiple antibiotics and nebulizing treatments, with no luck. Building back her immune system took lots of time and patience but after the new year, Moon was finally ready for her new start. She had grown up to be big, strong, and beautiful so it was no surprise when she was adopted the very same day she graduated from foster.

Thank you so much to her adopter for taking Moon home so soon after her graduation and continuing to love her unconditionally. And thank you Piedmont Floor Show for being this month’s sponsors.

We Were Adopted December 30th – January 5th!

We have TWO very special long stay adoptions to share with you all. Plus 49 other pets who found Happiness!

If you’ve seen our weekly spotlights of Maggie “Doing Things” on Facebook and Instagram you’ll know just how long we’ve been waiting for that special someone to come around. This week someone finally did!! She had seen Maggie’s weekly spotlights for a couple of months so when she was finally in a place to adopt Maggie was at the top of her list. With all the attention Maggie’s been getting recently she was worried Maggie wouldn’t be here, but despite it all, Maggie still was. As soon as they met, there was an instant connection and she took her home! Now she says Maggie is making herself right at home as her little shadow.

Mister Mack is another long stay pet we’ve been working hard to find a home for. For the longest time, Mister Mack would stay out of sight from visitors and hiss if he was approached. With the stresses of the shelter, he was not himself. For over a year he went on this way until one day when the right cat found her way to him. Despite living with cats for the majority of his time with us it wasn’t until Laguna joined him that he completely changed. We knew it would be a big ask but after seeing parts of Mister Mack’s personality shine we’ve never seen before we knew we had to find them a home together. We just didn’t know just how soon that would actually happen. It was only a few months after sharing their story that Mister Mack and Laguna were both adopted together.

Maggie and Mister Mack had been with us for 2 years making them our longest stay pets. Seeing them finally go home this Holiday Season is a proud, heartwarming moment for us. Thank you SO much to their adopters and thank you to Piedmont Floor Show for being this month’s sponsor and supporting our life-saving mission.

Our longest stay Dusk, hit the jackpot this Christmas with his new adoptive family! (95 other pets adopted in two weeks)

You may recognize Dusk from posts on social media, or from seeing him shying away in his condo. Dusk came to us as a young kitten and was in our care for over a year, nearly two, until recently. Before he went into foster Dusk lived in our open cat room. Dusk has always been shy and after his sister was adopted when they were kittens, he has kept to himself. Despite being in a frequently visited room, Dusk was usually tucked away in a safe cubby so few people could see his true potential. This went on for months so we had to come up with a plan.

We decided to give Dusk his own personal kitty condo. These spaces are quiet and peaceful, but also smaller. We were worried he would be afraid of visitors approaching his kennel, but instead, he shocked us with just how comfortable he was! With this newfound confidence and zest for life, staff were able to work closely with him and become friends. One staff member in particular who already had two cats and two large dogs at home wanted to give him a chance. She didn’t have plans to keep him at first but with surprise, he fell in love with all of her pets and she decided she couldn’t let him go.

Thank you so much to his foster/friend/new mom for taking him home and giving him a place to feel like himself. Of course, we couldn’t help cats like Dusk without amazing sponsors like Terry Subaru.

An Exciting Update on Karen the Kitten, and Homes for 71 Other Pets!

Remember Karen? We shared Karen’s fighting story 4 months ago when we believe she was attacked by an animal. She was fragile and had wounds covering her nose, wrist, shoulder, and paws. Over the next several months Karen was cared for and looked closely after by our medical staff. Then she hit the jackpot with an amazing foster who happened to be the staff member who took her in when she was originally found.

Her foster took great care of her and we got to see Karen’s progress firsthand. It wasn’t long before her foster fell in love and decided she had to keep her. Karen is happy and healthy now, and while she does have some permanent scarring, it is thanks to her finders and her foster/new mom that she can move past those injuries and continue making good memories.

Congratulations to Karen and her new mom, we wish you the best! And thank you to our sponsors at Terry Subaru for making these adoptions possible.

Our big girl Darcy finally found a home!!

If you’ve ever made a trip to the adoption kennels at the Center for Pets, one big girl has probably stuck out for you. Her name is Darcy and she came to us in early April of this year. Being a beautiful full Mastiff breed we were not expecting her to be with us long. But days turned into weeks, and weeks to months. Darcy was a sweet but shy girl. She was very gentle and loved toys. After weeks in the shelter, being a larger dog she started to get more and more anxious and overwhelmed. If she only had a chance at a good home all her issues would fade away. We just couldn’t find anyone who wanted or could house a large dog.

With more time in the shelter, she started to become more energetic and difficult to handle. Unfortunately, this wasn’t helping with her search for a home. Until one day last week, an excited woman came in to meet this big, beautiful girl. She wasn’t worried about her size or her energy; in fact, she was looking forward to having a big snuggle buddy. They met twice before Darcy was in her car and on her way home!

We are so excited for Darcy and her new mom and are looking forward to hearing about their journey together.

Thank you so much to Darcy’s adopter for giving this girl the break she’s been needing! And thank you to our sponsors, Terry Subaru for making this amazing adoption possible. You’ve been so good to us over the years!
