We Were Adopted! Oct 20th – Oct 26th.

Happy Halloweek!!

We love happily ever afters, especially ones where siblings can be kept together!! Last week a family came in to adopt a kitten, and they left with three. When their girls saw Chip, Small Fry, and Spud playing in their crate, their little hearts melted. When their parents learned they were siblings they decided that they had the room, so why split them up! They adopted all THREE little ones, and now they’re a family 3 kittens happier, and we have room to save three more kitties.

We are closed today 10/28 and tomorrow 10/29 for staff training and appreciation. But we still have plenty of kittens like these waiting for their happily ever after. Just stop by when we pick up our regular hours at 12pm this Thursday 10/30! We can’t wait to help you find your new best friend.

Thank you to this amazing family for adopting these kitties, and thank you Terry Subaru for always being an advocate for our pets, and for being this month’s sponsor.

One spooky special and 100 adoptions later!!

This past week was our Spooky Special. Last week we already had a full shelter, we are already at max capacity for dogs, and reaching max capacity for cats. What was originally going to be a weekend special, we extended through the entire week and had an amazing turn out! Our total adoption count was 111!

We’d like to thank all of the adopters who chose to give these pets the chance of a brighter future. We’d also love to thank our sponsors for this month Terry Subaru for helping make these adoptions possible!

We are so excited for these pets, their families, and the lives that they’ll share together. If you or someone you know is thinking about adding a new furry member to the family, please spread the word and stop by our Center for Pets!

Terry Subaru is helping to bring pets and people together!!

The day after his big adventure to Terry Subaru, Xavier went on an adoption trial!! They fell in love with him, and a few days later they decided to finalize their adoption. Why was he at Terry Subaru you may be wondering.

Since our first collaboration with our friends at Terry Subaru in 2013, they have helped raise over $250,000 for the homeless pets at the Lynchburg Humane Society. And in more ways than that they support the homeless pets of your community, which is why every October is #SubaruLovesPets month.

For the entire month of October the dealership has a dedicated stand for the pets at the Lynchburg Humane Society so you can learn more how you can help make a difference. If you stop by the dealership for some resources and happen to go for a test drive Terry Subaru will donate a bag of pet food, and if you purchase a Subaru they will donate $100. Additionally, every Saturday in October we make special visits to the dealership from 12 pm to 2 pm, where we bring adoptable pets for visitation and answer any questions you may have.

Their compassionate support will ensure that more amazing shelter pets like Xavier can find loving homes within our community. Thank you Terry Subaru and thank you to Xavier’s adopters for giving him a loving home.

Fostering saves lives

Odin was coming up on 5 months at LHS.

A few weeks ago we were so excited when a student came in hoping to foster her first dog! Odin was starting to have a hard time in the shelter so he was at the top of our list. He hasn’t always had it easy, so having an opportunity to spend time in a caring and quiet home, even for a few weeks, was truly a blessing.

She helped with marketing and regularly shared him to her socials hoping someone would adopt him. Not only did he LOVE his time with his foster and her friends, but we learned so much about him. She captured the best moments and gave us the sweetest testimony which we shared to our followers on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19bGe5XgdZ/ . The response was powerful. Everyone could see the impact she had made on him. While some people had a hard time seeing him happy with anyone else and insisted his foster keep him, we hope it inspired others to consider fostering a dog of their own. Fostering is truly a selfless act and, we knew this was exactly what he needed to finally find that special home.

And we were right! Not only did he find a family that he loves just as much, but now he has a Frenchie sibling as a play mate! And as for his foster, her home is free to continue changing dog’s lives and helping them find homes.

This is the truest example of why fostering is so important. Odin was a shy and very energetic dog in the shelter environment and it only took a few days in foster to see his true affectionate personality. We learned so much about him in that time that ultimately helped him find a home. Odin came back to the shelter fulfilled, and with a new found level of confidence and excitement for finding a home! It only took him a few days of waiting for his family to come in.

Thank you so much to his adopters for picking Odin to love. And a special thanks to Odin’s foster for being the reason he found a home!! We hope more of our dogs get to experience something as special as this 💚

Can you believe Chick finally found a home!!

It’s no secret that as summer hits and more and more kittens begin to arrive, our adult cats take a little longer to find homes. This phenomenon is even more apparent for our more reserved and nervous cats. Chick (previously Pump) is one of those cats.

Pump just turned 1 year old. She came in with her 4 other siblings who were also shy, and they spent quite a while in one of our socialization foster homes. They loved their time in foster, they played and even spent time near their foster mom. But being adopted from a foster home can be tricky with cats, and especially overwhelming for spicy kittens. Earlier this year they returned to the Center, and while her siblings Piglet, Puppy and Tadpole are doing great, Chick still only comes down from her perch at night.

We didn’t want Chick to go unnoticed and unwanted all summer long. But thank goodness her beauty outshines her fearful personality because a very special person could not stop visiting her. A woman with two shy fluffy cats already knew that she may not be able to pet Chick, but after a few weeks she decided it would be worth it just to give her a home and out of the shelter. Last week she finally adopted her and is already giving her the best life she could have dreamed of.

We’re so happy for Chick and can not wait to share more updates with you on her amazing new life!
